UPI Direct is a zero-cost payment collection flow on Lynk that allows coaches to collect fees directly from students or parents using UPI.

Unlike traditional gateway-based payment systems, UPI Direct enables payments to move directly between the payer and the coach’s bank account without platform transaction fees. Lynk then helps track, verify, and organize these payments through a structured payment lifecycle.

This system is designed to make collections simple, transparent, and operationally reliable for coaches managing recurring enrollments and batches.

How UPI Direct Works

The UPI Direct flow follows a clear sequence:

Draft → Pending → Paid → Settled

Each stage represents a different step in the payment journey and unlocks specific actions for both the coach and the student.

1. Creating a Payment Request

Payment requests can be generated in two ways.

Manual Payment Requests

Coaches can manually create and send payment requests to students or parents.

This allows you to:

  • Define custom amounts

  • Choose the student

  • Review details before sending

Auto-Generated Drafts

Lynk can also automatically prepare payment drafts based on enrollment timelines.

Drafts are typically created:

  • 7 days before an enrollment ends, or

  • Before the final 2 sessions of a batch

These drafts appear in the Drafts section, where coaches can:

  • Review the request

  • Edit details if needed

  • Send or discard the draft

This helps ensure renewals and recurring collections are not missed.

2. Payment Lifecycle

Once a payment request is sent, it moves through defined payment states.

Draft

The request has been created but has not yet been sent to the student.

At this stage:

  • The request is internal only

  • No payment link is shared

  • Coaches can edit, send, or discard the request

The payment flow has not officially started yet.

Pending

The payment request has been sent and is awaiting payment.

At this stage:

  • The student can complete payment via UPI

  • Coaches can follow up or resend the request

  • Offline payments can also be manually confirmed

Pending simply means payment is still awaited.

Paid

The student has confirmed payment through UPI, but coach verification is still required.

At this stage:

  • The system waits for the coach to verify receipt of funds

  • Coaches can:

    • Mark as Received → moves to Settled

    • Mark as Not Received → moves back to Pending

If no action is taken, Lynk automatically marks the payment as Settled after 7 days.

This step ensures payment confirmation remains accurate and coach-controlled.

Settled

Settled is the final stage of the payment lifecycle.

A payment reaches Settled when:

  • The coach manually confirms receipt

  • An offline payment is marked as received

  • The system auto-settles after 7 days

At this stage:

  • The payment is finalized

  • No further action is required

  • The transaction becomes part of the official payment record

How Offline Payments Work

UPI Direct also supports offline collection methods such as:

  • Cash

  • Bank transfer

  • Other direct collection methods

If payment is received outside the UPI flow, coaches can manually tap Received from the Pending state.

The request then directly moves to Settled.

This allows Lynk to track both online and offline collections in one system.

How Enrollments Are Updated

The ultimate purpose of the payment flow is to maintain accurate student enrollments.

Once a payment reaches the Settled state:

  • The payment officially reflects in the system

  • The student’s enrollment status is updated

  • The enrollment becomes active or renewed accordingly

Only Settled payments affect official enrollment records.

This ensures:

  • Enrollments remain financially verified

  • Active students are accurately tracked

  • Reporting and attendance stay reliable

Why UPI Direct Matters

UPI Direct helps coaches:

  • Collect payments without platform fees

  • Track every payment clearly

  • Manage both online and offline collections

  • Reduce missed renewals with automated drafts

  • Keep enrollments synchronized with payment status

By combining direct UPI transfers with structured payment tracking, Lynk simplifies fee collection while keeping coaches fully in control.
